It’s always great to have the support of our straight friends and family, but you have to admit It is cool to hear such support coming from movie celebs and sports stars, both local and international.

In saying that, no other country does celeb endorsement like the United States. Like New Zealand, there is so much going on in the U.S. currently with regards to marriage equality, with a number of states pushing for changes in current laws to allow same sex marriage (changes to laws will be voted on in the upcoming election November 6th). It is amazing to read of all the major support for marriage equality from musicians, celebrities, well known politicians alike, with huge campaigns like The Four 2012, Music for Marriage Equality and NOH8 working together to bring such celebs together for benefit concerts, tv appearances and endorsements.

Express magazine has put together this great article entitled ‘On Our Side’ which has some unique quotes from well known celebs, both homegrown and not, voicing their support for marriage equality.

I wonder if the homegrown celebs have made a submission yet… ?

We were lucky enough to share in the extravaganza that was the “GABA De Luxe” Charity Auction on Sunday. What a night. GABA raised upwards of $28,000 to put back to the community and we all had a ball.

Under the frivolity of the burlesque dancers and drag queens parading the goodies on offer for auction, there was a serious side to the evening. That included messages across the board for ensuring our community, our friends, family and whanau, are getting support from within our own ranks. It was great to see so many of us there putting up our auction cards to support just that.

There were a number of outstanding prizes to bid on, including social engagements with politicians. Nikki Kaye, Maryan Street, Jacinda Ardern, Louisa Wall, even the US Ambassador, all put forth prizes that went for huge money (and were finally won after serious bidding wars!).

We were very pleased that GABA kindly allowed us to hand out flyers for marriage equality. This gave us the opportunity to remind everyone that the final countdown for submissions is underway and that it is important for us all to not only make our own submissions, but also to encourage our friends and family to do likewise.

With those opposed to the Bill continually gathering signatures for their petition against marriage equality, it is important to remember that the submissions process is the only opportunity that we have to make our voices heard on this issue.

Please, click here, make your own submission and call on your family and friends to make a submission too – submissions are open only until the 26th of October, so don’t delay.
